News from Pogosta School, Ilomantsi - June 2006

We finished on June 3rd for ten weeks. We will come back on August 14th. On June 2nd the whole school went hiking in Petkeljärvi National Park which starts fifteen kilometres from the school. Older pupils walked about 8 kilometres, smaller ones less. The shape of the ground dates from the Ice Age and is only about 10 000 years old. The area was covered with thick ice, probably about 1 km thick. The water running under the ice moving soil formed the hills and ridges we can still see. At the camping site we had sausages.
