News From Szkola Podstawowa Nr 71 - January 2007

The beginning of the New Year was very busy both for our PE teachers and the school teams playing volleyball and basketball. Two big tournaments, District Eliminations of Primary School Championships in Volleyball and Basketball were held in our school.

Girls’ basketball

At the beginning of January, in the days: 8-10 January 2007, our school basketball team of girls played in the semi-final tournament of Primary School Championships, that was held in 199 Primary School. After unlucky drawing of lots, we found ourselves in a hard situation. We had to play with the last year champions of Lodz-199 Primary School, vice-champions of Lodz-64 Primary School, and the school that gained the fourth position-182 Primary School. Our girls took up the challenge and reached the second place after the hosts of the tournament, 199 Primary School. Unfortunately, the second positon in the group does not  let us further playing in the final tournament.

Boys’ volleyball

On 17th January our school were the hosts of the District Eliminations of Primary School Championships in mini –volleyball for boys.
Twelve primary schools from our district of the city, called Bałuty, decided to compete with others.They had been divided into groups of four. In our group there were teams from Primary School number 30, 48, 101 and ours. The matches were played in our school gym to two won sets. Each set was played by four different players and one reserve. In case of drawing, the third set was played by four chosen players,  to 15 points. Our boys won one of matches that gave us the third position in the group.   

Boys’ basketball

In the days: 18-25 January our school were the hosts of the District Eliminations of Primary School Championships in mini- basketball for boys. In our group there were teams from five primary schools from our district Bałuty: number 162, 160, 172, 19 and ours, number 71. Ten matches were played altogether. The boys from 172 Primary School were the best, so they were qualified for the semifinal of Lodz.  Our school team reached the second position.
